New two-laser configuration delivers affordable snapshot scanning on carriages and short infeeds – full 3-D scan coverage in just one foot of travel

JoeScan, Inc. has announced the newest member of the JS-20 family of laser scanners: the JS-20DL, an innovative and economical dual-laser scanner that addresses common scanning challenges in the wood products industry such as short infeeds and head-rig carriages.

Additional data for increased efficiency

In a Surround Scan configuration, a JS-20DL scanning system provides accurate shape data on both the front and back surfaces of a log. The addition of backside scan data provides a significant improvement over frontside-only scanning. When used on sharp- chain infeeds and EDLFs, the JS-20DL can scan for auto-rotation and skew, and can provide a high-density lineal scan in just one foot of travel. This allows mills to keep the compact simplicity of a sharp-chain infeed and still boost yields and production rates, providing an attractive alternative to complex and expensive double-length infeed systems.

Superior design and guaranteed reliability

The JS-20DL is based on the reliable and proven JS-20 platform. The JS-20 scanning platform was developed to make scanning easier to install and maintain. It uses industry- standard Ethernet, allowing the use of off-the-shelf networking cables and components. Similarly, TCP/IP communications and built in Web-based diagnostics and calibration tools enable fast and easy integration. JoeScan’s QuickPulse laser technology keeps all the scanners synchronized while maximizing laser life. The highly reliable QuickPulse technology also allows JoeScan to offer the industry’s only five-year laser warranty, in addition to a standard one-year limited product warranty.
